Timber frames.
Colourful checks.

A coordinated checked fabric brings together Rita Hughes’s sofa, armchairs and footstools. Warm red, muted blue and neutral tones sit alongside exposed timber frames in a welcoming living room.

Bringing a suite together

The same checked upholstery appears across the seating and footstools, giving the collection a shared identity. Cushioned seats and backs sit within open wooden frames, leaving the curved arms and spindle detailing clearly visible.

Matching cushions carry the pattern through the arrangement. The colours work alongside the room’s timber furniture, pale walls and fireplace, creating a comfortable, cohesive setting.

The finished pieces

Piping defines the edges of the cushions, while the checked pattern adds structure to their soft shapes. The upholstered arm pads follow the timber rails, linking fabric and frame without obscuring the furniture’s character.

Together, the sofa, chairs and footstools form a consistent suite. The finished combination celebrates both the visible woodwork and the warmth of the upholstery.
